Overview

The power of integrating Hogan Assessments directly into coaching workflows on Coaching.com is now available. Assessments can be added as program items in templates and seamlessly incorporated into the flow of a program. Coachees complete the assessment without needing a separate login, while coaches can access and share results at the right time. Results remain available within the engagement for ongoing reference and reflection. Admins or Coaches are billed for assessments through their Hogan portal.

Setting Up Your Accounts

To use this workflow, two accounts are required:

1. A Paid Coaching.com Account

You’ll need an active paid account on Coaching.com — either as an Independent Coach or as part of a Coaching Management Software subscription. Once your account is active, new template options related to Hogan Assessments will appear automatically. More information on these options can be found below in the section Detailed Steps for Using Hogan Assessments.

2. A Hogan Talent Platform Account

You’ll also need an account on the Hogan Talent Platform. You receive this when completing Hogan certification or by contacting Hogan directly. If you’re unsure whether you have an account or need to request one, please complete this form and the Hogan team will assist you:
👉 Request or Verify Your Hogan Account

Which Account Types are Eligible?

This feature is now available to Premium Independent Coach Accounts and paid Coaching Management Software accounts.

Coaches must be certified by Hogan Assessments in order to provide these assessments within Coaching.com. To find out more about getting certified, please visit this link: https://stories.hoganassessments.com/landing/cdc-hogan-account-landing/

Additional Requirements for Coaching Companies

If you’re part of a coaching organization, please note:
Any coach assigned to an engagement that includes the Hogan Assessment integration must also be registered in your organization’s Hogan account.

Before activating an engagement, Coaching.com will verify that the assigned coach exists in your Hogan account.
If a match isn’t found, the engagement cannot be activated.

This safeguard ensures that only authorized, Hogan-registered coaches can:

  • Access assessment results, and

  • Deliver debrief sessions to clients.

Detailed Steps for Using Hogan Assessments

The following guide outlines how to add Hogan Assessments to templates and engagements, and describes the experience and flow from both the coach and client perspectives.

Template Setup

Coaches and/or Admins with a Hogan account can add Hogan Assessments to any engagement template used for 1:1 coaching. A new program item type is available that can be inserted directly into the template (see below).

New Program Item for Hogan Assessments

Adding Hogan Assessment to an Engagement Template

  1. Navigate to your engagement template.

  2. Click “Add Item.”

  3. Select Hogan Assessment from the list.

  4. When prompted, authenticate your Hogan account.

  5. Once authenticated, three new program items will be automatically added to the top of your template.

Three New Program Items for Hogan Assessments

Upon adding the assessment, three new program items are automatically inserted at the top of the engagement template list.

Program Item #1 - "Take a Hogan Assessment"

The first program item is assigned to the coachee. For the coach, this item provides configuration options for the Hogan Billing Account and Hogan Product. If the coach has multiple accounts or products available, these will appear in a dropdown for selection. In the live engagement, the coachee will not see this configuration information.

Program Item #2 - "View Your Client's Results"

The second program item is assigned to the coach and provides access to the coachee’s results. Once the coachee completes the assessment, the first program item is automatically marked as complete, and the coach receives a notification linking directly to this step. From here, the coach can follow a secure link to review the assessment results.

Program Item #3 - "View Assessment Results"

The final program item is assigned to the coachee. Once the coach has reviewed the results and is ready for the coachee to access them, the coach can send this assignment. The coachee will then be able to view and reflect on their assessment results within the engagement.

The Coach's Engagement Experience

Once an engagement has been created using the template with the Hogan assessment, Coaches will see all of the engagement program items in the Engagement Details Tab.

"Take a Hogan Assessment"

Similar to other form-type assignments, coaches must send this assignment to their coachee. Once sent, the coachee is notified and can access the assessment via a button or link. The assessment is automatically marked as complete once the coachee finishes it, so the coach does not need to manually complete the assignment.

"View Your Client's Results" (Coach Assignment)

Once the assessment is complete, a follow-up task is automatically sent to the coach to review the coachee’s results. A link within the task allows the coach to securely access the assessment results on the Hogan site.

Like other links, tasks, and files, the coach will have the ability to mark this assignment as completed.

"View Assessment Results"

Once the coach has reviewed the results, they can send the next assignment to the coachee, allowing them to view and reflect on their assessment results. As with other links, tasks, and files, both the coach and coachee can mark this assignment as completed.

The Coachee's Engagement Experience

Coachees see only the program items assigned to them and do not have access to the second program item, which is specific to the coach (“View Your Client's Results”)

Take a Hogan Assessment

When the assignment is sent to the coachee through automation, or manually, the coachees receive the Hogan Assessment as their assignment. They complete the assessment through a secure Hogan link. After accepting the terms and providing consent, the coachee progresses through the assessment questions until completion.

"View Assessment Results"

Once the coach has reviewed the results and sent the assignment, the coachee is notified that it is time to "View Assessment Results." The timing of this notification is at the coach’s discretion. A button then appears, allowing the coachee to access the results. The coachee can mark the assignment as completed once finished.

Coach Eligibility Verification for Coaching Companies

For independent coaches who have the correct account setup, you are good to go. Coaching companies may have a number of admins, and may work a large number of coaches. When it comes to working with Hogan Assessments, there are controls in place in terms of which admins can setup templates using Hogan Assessments, and also coaches who are eligible to access assessment results. In short, both the admins and coaches in these scenarios will need to be added to the account on the Hogan side. This is discussed in the Setting Up Your accounts section.

There are additional checks throughout the engagement workflows that verify that the coach is eligible. A coach must be added to the account on Hogan to be eligible. This section describes where these checks happen, and what will be presented when a verification fails.

Step

Notes

Engagement Wizard

Engagement Save - End of Wizard

When an engagement is created through the Engagement Wizard, the last step is to save the details to create a new engagement. At this point the eligibility of the coach is verified.

For a 1:1 engagement, if the coach is not setup within the Hogan account being used, the engagement will be saved, however a warning will be given:

Simply add the coach to your account on Hogan, and the engagement can then be activated.

For On-Demand engagements, Hogan Assessments are not eligible (Since there may be any number of coaches). You can remove the Hogan Assessment, and then you will be able to activate the account.

Engagement Bulk Import

On Import

If the engagements are set to activate, an error will occur for specific rows in which the coach is is not also present on the Hogan account.

This is very similar to the Engagement Wizard workflow defined above.

At this point the coach is checked for eligibility. If the coach is not a part of the account on Hogan, the engagement will not activate.

Limitations

There are certain limitations to the Hogan Assessments + Coaching workflow that are detailed below:

Area

Notes

Group Coaching

The ability to have Hogan Assessments within group or team coaching engagements is not currently supported. As a workaround, 1:1 engagements can be setup for the purposes of the assessment, and can work in parallel to a group or team engagement.

Repeating an Assessment Debrief with a Coach

If a coachee has already taken an assessment and has worked with the a specific coach for a debrief and coaching within an engagement, then an error is presented when attempting to create a new engagement with an additional Hogan Assessment. This is to avoid duplication of the assessment process and workflow.
