What is the Team Development Essentials course?
Team Development Essentials is the collaborative creation by Prof. Peter Hawkins and Dr. Catherine Carr, renowned experts in team coaching who have dedicated their careers to advancing coaching, team dynamics, and leadership development.
It was designed to equip coaches, team managers, team leaders, and HR professionals with the skills and knowledge to effectively navigate and lead teams. The course is a 13-week blended learning experience comprising six self-paced modules, and two live Q&A sessions hosted by Prof. Hawkins and Dr. Carr, and six Practicum sessions facilitated by hand-picked team of experienced team coaches.
By the end of it participants will:
Gain an understanding of what a team is and why leading and developing teams is important;
Acquire knowledge of basic concepts behind systemic team coaching and what it means to lead a team systemically;
Acquire the skills to identify critical factors that underpin team performance and dysfunction;
Articulate the five key disciplines a high-value creating team must develop;
Integrate models, tools, and techniques of team coaching into their teams;
Collaborate and contract with co-coaches and teams effectively; and
Learn how to create and use a Team Development Plan.

Who is hosting this course?
The Team Development Essentials course is led by Prof. Peter Hawkins and Dr. Catherine Carr, renowned figures in team coaching. Prof. Hawkins is known for his extensive experience and contributions in systemic team coaching, while Dr. Carr brings a wealth of knowledge in leadership coaching and psychotherapy.
All of the six asynchronous modules have been delivered personally by them, and additionally, they each host two live Q&A sessions during the course.
To further enhance practical skills, the course features six Practicum sessions, each led by a hand-selected Practicum Leader and at least one Practicum Assistant from our global faculty of experienced team coaches from over twenty countries. Their role is to guide you through the practice exercises and training materials during the live sessions, and in between sessions in the community. The Practicums are designed to provide hands-on experience and real-world application of the concepts.
What are the prerequisites for joining the course?
While prior coaching experience can enhance your learning, a background in team development is not required, as the course is thoughtfully designed to cater to both newcomers and those with some experience in the field.

What is the difference between the Team Development Essentials and the Systemic Team CoachingĀ® Practitioner course?
In the Team Development Essentials, we started coaching leaders to better enable their teams, coach the team through the team leader, or how to start with the team.
In the Systemic Team CoachingĀ® Practitioner you will learn how to effectively convey āwhy team coachingā to a potential client partner, how to expand your practice by coaching a team using the Five Disciplines of high-value creating teams, and SIDER, a model for scoping, contracting, and delivering team coaching work.
You will expand your range of approaches you can use when coaching teams, and the authority, presence, and impact required to be a successful team coach.
After engaging with Systemic Team CoachingĀ® Practitioner, you will gain the ability to coach teams, deliver off-site workshops, and carry out structured team diagnostics.

What designation do I get upon completing this course?
Upon completing the graduation requirements, you will receive the title of Certified in Team Development Essentials.
The graduation requirements are:
Complete all asynchronous activities for the six modules.
Attend at least 5 out of 6 Practicums live.
If you miss a Practicum, you can use the Missed Practicum process to make up for your attendance.
Note this can only be used once toward meeting your graduation requirements. In case of missing more than two Practicum sessions, you will have the option to move to the June 2024 cohort for a small administrative fee of $150.
Upon completing the course requirements, youāll receive access to a personalized digital certificate, marketing materials, and a copy of your CCEU, CPD or PDC credits depending which organization you are a member of (ICF, EMCC or SHRM, respectively).
How much time will I need to invest to be successful in the course?
The course is estimated to take 26 learning hours over the course of 13 weeks. This includes:
Attending the six live Practicum sessions (9 hours)
Two live Q&A sessions (2 hours)
Learning through six self-paced modules (12 hours)
To get the most out of the course, we recommend that you set aside about 2 hours each week to go through the content on your own, and another 2 hours in the weeks where you have your Practicum sessions.
